Conflict Manager Training

ConflictManagement is a form of problem-solving used as an alternative tophysical fights and/or other victimizing situations such as verbal abuseand harassment (bullying), which are common among sixth, seventh, andeighth grade students. Conflict Managers act as mediators betweenstudents in conflict. They help them to understand underlying causes fortheir disagreement as well as to help to work out a mutually agreeablesolution to the conflict. Conflict Managers are asked to serve in thiscapacity when the need arises during recesses, lunch breaks, andpossibly during a class period.

A training forsixth, seventh, and eighth grade Conflict Managers will be held here atBarry School annually. Conflict Managers from Barry school will takepart in the training along with Ms. Johl (Barry SchoolCounselor/Conflict Management Advisor. During the training, informationwill be presented on communication skills, rumor control, problemidentification, diffusion of anger, active listening, assertiveness, perception, and Conflict Manager duties and responsibilities. Thetraining serves as a wonderful opportunity for students to becomeacquainted with the Conflict Management process while gaining somevaluable insight from the experiences that the High School ConflictManagers are able to share.
